Live Shaping and Music in Lisbon with Nuno Matta & Orlando Santos
People walking by Ribeira Das Naus in Lisbon city center, beside Tejo River, could watch an incredible live performance with the shaper Nuno Matta and the musician Orlando Santos.
Everybody knows that shaping a surfboard is just like an artist doing any kind of piece but normally the shaper do it on a shaperoom with no eyes on him. This time was different, Nuno Matta built a shape room on the street and invited the well none musician Orlando Santos to get more inspiration and to create a completely different environment to every present person.
The art of shaping walks together with music and when you combine this two arts, in the middle of an historical place, the result is unique and amazing.

Searching for the Perfect Shape with Nuno Matta & Frankie Chavez
What happen when you join one of the most recognized musicians among the surf community with one of the most recognized shaper?
For sure you wished to have your surfboard being shaped at the bay during that moment because the scenario was idyllic both to Nuno Matta and to Frankie to push the most for their art.
Frankie Chavez’s music mixes different types of sounds, reflecting all the musical influences he encountered while traveling the world. The result is a kind of Blues/Folk, with atmospheres ranging from clean to rough or psychedelic rock n roll. Though it’s easy to recognize different musical influences (Robert Johnson, Jimi Hendrix, Kelly Joe Phelps, Ry Cooder) it’s hard to define his music in a single word.

MATTA TEST DRIVE in ESPINHO
MATTA Test Drive with more than 30 Surfboards during the Pro Junior Espinho
It’s all being set for an incredible Surfboard “tasting”. The Surfboard company, MATTA, will provide more than 30 Surfboards for Test Drives during the Pro Junior Espinho, from the 22nd until the 25th of June.
The Pro Junior Espinho is the third stop of the European Junior circuit. The fun peaky beach breaks of Espinho have delivered excellent conditions these past three years.
Besides the Surfboards Test Drive you can also watch Live Shaping with Nuno Matta on MATTA booth that will be set on the contest Surf Village.
On Friday, the 23rd of June, MATTA Team Riders will be at the brand booth for a Signing Session, right after the competition ends for the day, it will be a great opportunity to meet in person Justin Becret, Sam Piter, Joaquim Chaves, Gui Ribeiro, Diego Suarez, Melania Suarez, Martim Paulino and Manuel Teixeira.
“My goal is to present my brand the best way possible, providing more than 30 surfboards besides the fun of surfing different shapes, it will definitely help any surfer around to find a surfboard that will suit better his or her surfing performance. The public will also have the opportunity to watch live the technique of shaping a surfboard and we also thought that it will be important for the local surfers to get in contact with the best juniors from our team.”, said Nuno Matta.

MATTAfactory Recycling Projects
You can find all kind of waste on a surf factory. To have a new surfboard a track of waste is left behind, just need some creativity and environmental care to make use of those waste materials.
It’s already known the recycling program used by MATTA, by collecting waste EPS Foam to pack the boards and to turn it directly into a new surfboard blank.
But more can be done and with that in mind Nuno Matta start looking at his factory to get ideas for the booth furniture, that needed to be set up during last month event Caparica Primavera Surf Fest, and for the trophies for the Caparica Pro WQS and European Pro Junior.
So, Nuno start collecting waste materials in his factory and turned fiber cardboard rolls and pallets into a table; made another table from a resin drum; made two seats, one from a wasted tail foam and the other from a diluent drum; and the events trophies were made from broken surfboards.

The open of the European leg will take place in Costa da Caparica, Portugal, between 10 and 15 of April. Caparica Pro Powered by MATTA, A WQS 1000 event (men and women), will bring some of the best surfers worldwide to this Portuguese prime beach break.

Caparica Pro powered by MATTA it’s part of Caparica Primavera Surf Fest, a festival that distinguishes itself by presenting high performance surfing by day and the best national music by night. Some of Portugal’s finest, in six amazing venues with 21 artists and DJ’s.

Eugenio Barcelloni - Mexico
I arrived in Mexico a couple of months ago and I first discovered the right point breaks in the wild south coast of Oaxaca State until I fell in love with the greatest wave of Mexico, Puerto Escondido. Mexico has a lot of interesting things, the ancient culture of the natives with their stunning pyramids and the tasty spicy food. The beach of Zicatela has really powerful waves, the surf is intense and you better have a strategy when you go out there in the big days.
It’s a different surf and you really feel the competitivity of the big wave riding, you have to be patient and wait for a long time for the right wave until it will suddenly come to you.
